NAME CHANGES

1. Is Shoreline College the same and Shoreline Community College?
   1. Yes! Shoreline Community College was approved to change their name to Shoreline College. You can read more here about the name change and other upcoming updates!
2. Is 7000 Campus Living changing its name as well?
   1. 7000 Campus Living will be renamed to Alder Residence Hall (7000) in the coming year! You can expect to see these changes physically and online over time as the college completes the renaming process for the campus.

APPLICATION/ELIGIBILITY

1. Do I have to be a Shoreline College student to live on campus?
   1. No! Our building is open to all full-time enrolled college students who are enrolled in at least 10 credits at an accredited institution who meet our rental criteria. Shoreline College residents are our primary demographic, but we’re always looking to connect more students with each other. Contact the housing office for more details and questions about eligibility.
2. I receive financial aid. Can I use it to pay for part/all of my housing fees?
   1. Beginning fall quarter 2026, students who are eligible to receive Financial Aid (grants, loans, etc.) will have their Financial Aid funds applied to their Housing fees only after all other tuition and fees are paid in full. Students are eligible for a set amount of Financial Aid each quarter, and the cost of Housing is likely to exceed the amount received in grants alone, meaning students may still owe Housing fees out-of-pocket or need to find additional funding sources. Specific questions about the Financial Aid process and specific student aid offers must be directed toward the Shoreline College Financial Aid Office.

      Here are the steps to apply for and stay up-to-date on your Financial Aid:

      ➜ Apply for Financial Aid prior to the quarterly deadlines stated on the Financial Aid website.
      ➜ Submit all paperwork and documents required by the Financial Aid office by the deadlines they provide. Check your status in ctcLink.
      ➜ Use the online Net Price Calculator or other online tools to create a budget that helps you understand your Financial Aid offer AND your estimated cost of attendance.
      ➜ Pay close attention to your student account online. Note that when you are offered a specific room style, change your credit load, or make other changes to your student account that could change your cost of attendance, your Financial Aid eligibility might also be impacted.
      ➜ Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress to keep your aid. Utilize the many helpful academic support services on campus, including the Student Learning Center.

3. I’m an international student. Can I still live on campus?
   1. Yes! We require that all international students meet the requirements outlined in our rental criteria and will still need to process an application for each applicant. However, we do require all 16 and 17 year old international students to live on campus. We do not discriminate based on nationality.
4. I’m under 16 years old. Can I live on campus? Does a parent need to sign the housing agreement with me?
   1. 16 year olds are able to live on campus. If a student is under the age of 18 years old at time of the agreement being signed, they will be required to sign with a guarantor (parent or guardian).
5. Do I have to find my own roommates?
   1. We’ll help you find them! A roommate survey is part of your application and helps us place you in a unit.
6. Can I choose to live with people I know instead of being placed with new roommates?
   1. On the roommate survey, there is an option to provide the names of other applicants that you want to live with. Please note that they must request you as well for you to be assigned to a room/unit together, but ultimately roommate placement is based on unit availability. We encourage you to apply at the same time as your requested roommate and make sure you’re applying for the same apartment type to increase your chances of rooming together.
7. Is it possible that I might be placed with a roommate of a different gender?
   1. Yes, it is possible. You will have the opportunity to designate on your roommate survey whether you would prefer to live with someone identifying as the same gender or someone identifying as a differing gender (we call this a gender-inclusive unit) and we will do our best to accommodate your request. Choose a setting that will be most comfortable and enriching for you. Please be aware that though apartments may be gender specific, each floor will be mixed gender.
8. Are there any vaccination requirements to live at Alder Residence Hall?
   1. Shoreline College highly recommends maintaining an updated vaccination for COVID-19. For more information on other vaccines that are highly recommended but not required, click here to see our recommendations.

HOUSING

1. Can I schedule a tour of Alder Residence Hall?
   1. We would love to show you around your new home. Schedule a tour with one of our team members and we will take you through our available apartments, show you our amenity and community spaces, and answer any questions you have along the way!
2. How do I apply?
   1. Simple! Just click the “Apply” button on the website, read through the qualification criteria, and fill out your information accordingly. You will need to select your unit type by preference and then submit your application which will go straight to our Housing Team. Agreement terms are shown as the first choice on the application, with the start and end dates listed, if you have more questions about term lengths, contact our Housing Office!
3. I submitted an application! What do I do now?
   1. It will take a few days for the application to be reviewed. In the meantime, keep an eye on your email for any questions or next steps that our staff may reach out to you for.
4. Can I choose how long my housing agreement is?
   1. Yes! For agreements that start in the middle of the year must be a minimum of 2 quarters in length. Agreements that start in the fall and are less than 10 months are subject to a Short-Term Premium (STP) of $150/month, which will be part of your quarterly payments. However, for those who are international students and requesting shorter agreements, please reach out directly to the housing office.
5. If I choose a shorter agreement, and want to stay longer, can I renew?
   1. Renewals are offered to all eligible students prior to the end of their agreement. If you are in good standing with the college and Alder Residence Hall, you would be offered a renewal.
6. I work a job, and can’t make quarterly payments, what are my options? Would I still be able to live in Alder Residence Hall?
   1. Definitely! If your circumstances prevent you from being able to pay at the beginning of each quarter, talk to our Housing Office about an exemption from quarterly payments!
7. Do I sign a housing agreement with all of my roommates?
   1. Once we match you with your roommates, you each will be sent individual agreements to sign electronically. Everyone will be responsible for the care of the shared common area spaces, but as far as housing payments – you will only need to worry about your own.
8. What is the application fee/deposit I need to pay when I apply?
   1. Currently, there is a $37 application fee and $150 hold deposit charged when you submit your application online. Move-in fees include your $150 deposit (which is refundable after move out assuming there are no damages or outstanding charges to the account), A $250 Non-Refundable Fee, and a $120 Cleaning Fee, as well as a $90 Activity Fee. These payments are due prior to move-in day. These fees may change going into mid-late 2026, visit this page again to see any updates.
9. What is the “Activity Fee”?
   1. Each student living on campus pays an activity fee of $90 up-front before move in which covers the cost for resident events and activities coordinated by the Residential Life team. Students do not have the ability to opt out of this fee.
10. What if my plans change and I want to defer my application to a different quarter for move in?
    1. Please contact our Housing Team to let us know. We can defer your application by one quarter depending on the time of year without reapplication being required in most cases, but if you are deferring to the next academic year, reapplication may be required as pricing, application criteria, and policies are subject to change.
11. What if my plans change and I need to cancel my application?
    1. We’re sorry to hear it! Please let the Housing Team know and we will cancel your application for you. Cancellations or denials are not eligible for a refund of the $37 application fee or the $150 hold deposit. If you change your mind and decide to live at Alder Residence Hall again, reapplication will be required, including payment. Keep in mind the same unit assignment may not be available depending on availability.
12. Does Shoreline College admission guarantee housing placement?
    1. No. While we house Shoreline College students in Alder Residence Hall, admission is separate from the housing application process. The screening process is outlined within the application process, contact the housing office if you have concerns about approval!

BUILDING

1. Is there overnight parking available?
   1. Overnight parking is available for residents at Alder Residence Hall. Residential overnight parking requires a permit. Residents of Alder Residence Hall can purchase a parking permit through the Cashiering Office. Information on parking at Shoreline College can be found here.
2. What types of floor plans does Alder Residence Hall have?
   1. Our building offers the following unit types:
      • Shared Studios (2 person occupancy)
      • Two bedroom, One bathroom (2 person occupancy),
      • Two Bedroom, Two bathroom apartments (2 person occupancy)
      • Two Bedroom, Two bathroom apartments (4 person occupancy)
      • Four bedroom, Two bathroom (4 or 5person occupancy) with options on upper or lower floors for varying rates

3. What common areas are available in the building?
   1. Hang out with new and old friends in the large lobby area that includes wireless internet, high-top tables and comfy lounge chairs or get some studying done in the Great Room where there is lots of open seating and table space. Better yet, on a nice day head outside and relax in the spacious courtyard!
4. Are the apartments furnished?
   1. Every student living in the building will have their own extra-long twin bed frame and mattress, end table, wardrobe, desk, and desk chair. Every apartment has a full kitchen including a refrigerator, range oven, and dishwasher. Studio units also have a two-person dining table set and multi-bedroom units have a common area complete with a couch, two armchairs, media credenza, and end tables. Residents will be responsible for providing their own linens, towels, shower curtains, kitchenware, microwave, and television.
5. Where can I do my laundry?
   1. Laundry facilities are provided on the ground floor of the building for use by all residents. Laundry is charged per load to wash and dry.
6. Where can I keep my bike if I live at Alder Residence Hall?
   1. We offer free bike storage on the 1st floor of Alder Residence Hall, bring your own lock! Bikes cannot be stored in your apartment.
7. Where do I go for groceries?
   1. The building is located right at the front of campus directly off the bus line and adjacent to the Student Union Building which includes Avanti grab-and-go market for smaller snack and drink items. Additionally, regular shuttle trips to local grocery stores are offered each week that will allow students to stock up on food and supplies.
8. Do I have to set up my own internet and cable service?
   1. We know how important it is for you to stay connected. All students will have access to wireless internet, included in the housing fees. Additionally, all units are cable ready, however students living in that space will be responsible for setting up and paying for cable service. Satellite service is not available.
9. What utilities will I have to pay for?
   1. None! We want you to be able to focus on your studies. Water, sewage, garbage, electric, and internet service are all included in your housing fee.
10. How do I pay my housing fee?
    1. Currently you will be able to pay for your monthly housing fee online using a bank account or credit card (a small convenience fee will be charged for both options). You will also be able to set up automatic payments through the online site. Payment via check or money order will also be accepted via the dropbox at the Housing Office located off the lobby. Cash payments are not accepted for monthly housing fee payments. Stay tuned for updates to this in mid-late 2026!

LIVING

1. Will there be Resident Assistants in the building 24/7?
   1. There will be staff available in the building at all times. Resident Assistants (student staff) live in the building and promote community by organizing events and providing assistance and support to students as needed. There is a live-in Assistant Director who oversees the Resident Assistants. Professional housing staff will also be available in the onsite office from Monday – Friday, 9:30am – 4:30pm.
2. Can I have guests over?
   1. Yes! Residents are encouraged to limit guests but are permitted to have guests visiting them in the building at any given time. Residents are allowed overnight guests for up to three (3) consecutive nights per quarter and are responsible for their guests behavior. We strongly encouraged discussing plans to invite guests over with roommates prior to guests visiting, especially in shared bedrooms and studios. Those who are not able or comfortable to host guests in their apartment are welcome to gather in the great room or lobby. Guests should be escorted through the building by the resident and not left unattended.
3. How do I get accommodations??
   1. Student Accessibility Services (SAS) at SCC works with Housing to ensure that reasonable accommodations are met. For their website and contact information click here.
4. Can I have pets?
   1. Unfortunately, this building is animal-free (with the exception of assistance/support animals that require prior approval from the college). To learn more about the process of obtaining approval for your animal, or contact Student Accessibility Services (SAS) for more information, click here.
5. Can I smoke?
   1. Smoking (or vaping) of any kind is not allowed within the building or on campus with the exception of designated outdoor smoking shelters. There is a designated smoking shelter in the parking lot across from the 1000 building. Please note that you cannot smoke or vape in the Alder Residence Hall courtyard.
6. Can I drink alcohol or use marijuana at Alder Residence Hall?
   1. Shoreline College is a dry campus. Regardless of age, no consumption of alcoholic beverages or cannabis (marijuana) is allowed at Alder Residence Hall.
7. How do I get mail and packages?
   1. Mail is picked up by the Housing Office and made available for pickup either during certain hours with our office, or during RA Office Hours, which will be communicated to you soon after move-in. Packages are delivered to our Luxer Locker, and require that the residents have their first name, last name, and full apartment number on the package, or it may not be able to be delivered.

      Packages that are improperly addressed will be returned to sender, and if unable to be returned, will be stored for 45 days before considered abandoned, at which time the college may dispose of them.

8. What is the Resident Handbook?
   1. The resident handbook is the resident’s guide for everything Alder Residence Hall related and is something the student agrees to when signing the housing license agreement and moving into the building. See our Resident Handbook here.
